Compressible Turbulence

(20h Lec, 2 ECTS) G. Lehnasch

This course is devoted to the description, analysis and modeling of turbulent flows in compressible regime (high subsonic to supersonic) where variable density effects become important. It aims at introducing the different conceptual and practical tools to observe, measure, formalize, model and analyze the so-called compressibility effects on the behavior of turbulent flows in this regime compared to the incompressible case. Through this course, students have the opportunity to better understand the behavior of turbulence actually observed in the context of aeronautical and space transportation and all industrial applications involving high speed flows or strong temperature gradients.
