Alumni testimonies

Former students from 5 continents now work in many prominent companies in the aerospace, automotive, chemical, oil & gas, and renewable energy industries and in various consulting firms, and many went on to acquire Ph.D.s at some of the world’s most prestigious universities (Cambridge, Imperial College of London, Princeton, Cal-Tech, Univ. Toronto, Univ. Paris Saclay, among others).

The ALUMNI association is a registered non-profit organization in France since 2013. The aim of this association is to establish a professional network among former graduates. The association also provides a bridge between former and current students of the program.

Ilkay Solak

Ph.D, Combustor design aerothermal senior technical leader,  TUSAŞ Engine Industries, Turkey

(Master student 2012-2014)

The Turbulence Master program helped me develop the skills I needed for my professional life. Turbulence Master’s method is rigorous, always asking questions about black boxes and avoiding them. As a result of this approach, I learned how to ask myself and my colleagues the right engineering questions. Having the opportunity to develop problem-solving skills in an international environment was a life-changing experience for me.

Manasa PERIYAPATTANA

Ph.D, R&D engineer Process Engineering and Combustion, AIR LIQUIDE, Research & Development, Paris, France.

(Master student 2015-2017)

I was keen on pursuing a master’s in advanced fluid mechanics, and during my search, I discovered this master’s program in turbulence. It was a delight to have found the two-year master’s program that covers a wide variety of subjects in both experimental and numerical aspects. I already had the goal of doing a PhD after completing a master’s program. But I had gaps in my technical skill set that needed to be addressed. Through this program, I was able to reinforce the skills, confidence, and better perspective I needed to pursue a PhD and eventually find a job in the R & D sector. I have to admit that in the beginning, the subjects were quite challenging, but with some extra work and the quality of tutoring at EC Lille and ENSIP/ENSMA Poitiers, I started to see progress. Thanks to the excellent teaching committee of the master’s program. The professors were skilled and possessed great knowledge in their respective domains. I am really happy to have opted for this master’s program, which has paved my career in the domain of research and development in the industrial sector, which has been my dream. Furthermore, I had a fantastic opportunity to learn French language and culture, which I still value highly.

Nicholas Treleaven

PhD, Research engineer in combustion and future fuels for aviation engines, Safran Tech, Paris-Saclay.

(Master student 2013-2015)

I was in the third cohort of the new masters program of turbulence. I chose the program because I was looking for a program related to aircraft engineering and I liked the idea of spending a full 2 years in another country to learn af new language and culture. What I discovered during my two years was a world I didn’t know existed. The masters program gave me the motivation and skills I needed to pursue a PhD. The classes were excellent and the lecturers passionate. I found it relatively easy to find a good PhD program and now that I work in industry I am glad to be able to profit from the things I learned in Lille and Poitiers, not to mention some very good friends and plenty of professional contacts. I highly recommend this program for the scientifically minded, no matter if industry or academia is your goal.

Camille Aucouturier

Aerodynamic Design Engineer – Safran Aircraft Engines, Paris.

(Master student 2020-2022)

The Turbulence Master has been a chance to study with professors and students from all around the world, which was very enriching, considering the differences of cultures, academic backgrounds and ways of teaching. The small number of students made the interaction between them and the professors very easy. It was a great opportunity to learn from international experts of the domain, who really supported the students. It gave me the chance to work on subjects I would never have though to work on, such as analogue gravity, with a worldwide expert. The wide range of courses and projects allows the students to go on with a PhD, as well as with a job in industry for instance. As far as I am concerned, now, I am working in the aeronautics industry. I am doing exactly what I wanted to do, thanks to the scientific background the Turbulence Master gave me. I recommend !
